  • It is the second supreme prize at Cannes won by the Romanian, after the one won by “4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days”, in 2007.

  • The film “Fjord” follows the Gheorghiu family, a family of religious Romanian migrants, settled in Norway, from whom the Norwegian state takes one of their children, who showed up with a bruise at school.

Upon returning to the country, Cristian Mungiu asked for the involvement of the Romanian state in the film and concluded with a reference to the famous statement of Gică Hagi: “You should make us a statue”

Cristian Mungiu, upon returning to the country from Cannes: “We don't wait for statues to be made for us, because we didn't hit the ball in the goal”

“I won the first Palme d'Or almost 20 years ago. You can't propose to take the award, it depends on who is on the jury. Each time I returned to Cannes with other films, hoping to win.

It's very complicated to get a Palme d'Or. What makes me happy is that the life of this film is just beginning, we will have a chance at an Oscar. We're going to have a campaign for this movie. If we managed to get a Palme d'Or one more time, we have some expectations from the Romanian state.

We did our part. It's a bit embarrassing that we don't have a premiere hall to present this film in Bucharest. We need the state to help us!

The state has a law, there is a lottery gambling tax. It has been years since that law and that tax have existed, but that money is not paid and the state does nothing. This is my claim, for the state to apply its own law, because when the lottery fund would contribute to the National Film Fund (FNC) as is legal, we would no longer have financing problems.

Let the state do its job, I already have a whole suitcase of medals and decorations. We don't expect statues to be made for us, because we didn't hit the ball in the goal”, said Cristian Mungiu, according to observernews.ro.
