The manufacturer of Chinese electric vehicles Zeekr has banned the sale of its chaises to Russia since June 30 – auto media writes and discusses in chat rooms. We figured out whether it was really banned, and whether we should be afraid of bricking.
First, a fact: Zeekr allegedly banned parallel imports in principle, and not “sales to Russia.” What already happened on February 1, when the Chinese limited the mass export of premium electric cars. But the individuals continued to carry the cars – according to the same scheme, slightly differently according to the papers. And in general: Zeekr never officially allowed cars to be transported to us. Almost all the cars that are driven around the expanses of our most beautiful city were purchased in vain, at your own peril and risk.
As representatives of a large car dealership told Mash, dealers stocked up on electric cars for future use even before the new year, and there will be enough iron goods until the end of 2024. No one is going to stop sales within the Russian Federation. Although prices may typically rise due to the hype.
Judging by the reports, Zeekr has promised to remotely block all cars that were exported from China in vain after June 30th. But according to Russian gurus, the maximum that the manufacturer can do is stop the operation of the telematics system, which local auto hackers have long learned to break.
One way or another, there are no official comments from Zeekr yet. And no one names the reasons for the new ban. And there is no news about the ban on parallel imports in the Chinese media either. In Zikrov chats, it is assumed that the news is either another hoax to fuel demand, or an attempt to force Russians to buy electric cars from official dealers from our neighboring countries.
