Car traffic moved underground on Calea Victoriei, next to the Royal Palace. Central streets in Bucharest will be pedestrianized, like in Vienna and Paris – the Ciucu Plan

Central streets in Bucharest are prepared to be transformed into pedestrian zones “like in the big European cities”, with the promise of the general mayor that the first effects will be seen already this year.
40 areas in Bucharest have already been chosen, most of them in the city center, and 10 of them will be prioritized to be transformed.
Among these areas are Magheru Boulevard, Palatului Hall Area – Royal Palace – Romanian Athenaeum, Str. Arthur Verona, Str. Ion Câmpineanu, Str. General Berthelot, Str. Edgar Quinet and Ena's Church, Str. Schitu Măgureanu/Scuar Hermitage Church, Independence Splai between Eroilor Bridge and Izvor Bridge (left bank), Independence Bridge between Semănoatorea Bridge and Grozăvești Bridge (both banks).
“The principles on which I base my vision for the central area are pedestrianization, more quality green space, cleaner air and less exhaust,” says the general mayor of the capital, Ciprian Ciucu.
