The Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals of the Siberian Federal University in Krasnoyarsk hosted the Nornickel Technological Lecture for the first time. The format involves professional immersion in industry issues for 1st-2nd year students. In Krasnoyarsk, the Technolectorium was dedicated to the topic of technology and innovation. The managers spoke about the company’s key projects and specifically focused the students’ attention on what they need to study today in order to be a sought-after professional tomorrow.

“T-shape specialists are now in demand who are well versed not only in their specialized field, but also understand the requirements in the field of ecology and technology, and are able to learn new things and solve the most ambitious tasks. In this regard, while the guys are just beginning to immerse themselves in the profession, we have the opportunity to guide them and help them make their choice. We tried to give an adequate idea of today's production, the technologies, and the equipment used. Such meetings lay the foundation for human resources, and this is a mutually beneficial cooperation: companies – personnel, students – the opportunity to work in such a giant as Norilsk Nickel,” said Anastasia Stepanova, head of the company’s youth department.

More than 60 students from the fields of “Metallurgy” and “Mining” registered for the Technological lecture. Leading experts from Norilsk Nickel spoke to the future specialists. Director of the scientific and technical center of the Kola MMC Dmitry Savoskin spoke about the history of Arctic exploration, the use of mined metals and the company’s scientific projects. Head of the Environmental Audit Department Anton Fadeev shared information about the environmental situation in the cities of presence and about the Sulfur Program – the largest environmental project in Russia. Chief Manager of the Department for Innovation and Digital Technologies Alexandra Tanasova spoke about the digitalization of production, artificial intelligence and robotic systems. The head of the department for ensuring interaction with relevant authorities, Evgenia Alkova, highlighted the company’s environmental strategy, and Anastasia Stepanova presented career programs for students.

“Today’s realities with the availability of qualified engineers on the market force the company to look not only at ready-made university graduates, but also at the younger generation. Preparing students “for themselves” starting from the first year is one of the solutions to minimize future personnel risks. The first year students are precisely those students who have not yet fully formed their position on their future career. And we gave the guys an idea of our company. And they even helped someone make a decision to work at Norilsk Nickel,” said Dmitry Savoskin.

The lecture hall was not a boring “lecture marathon”. Every day the theory was accompanied by practical tasks. Of particular interest to the students was the case game from ecologists – a format where theory instantly turns into a real problem. On the final day there was a team super quiz. The winners received a set of gifts from the company, and all lecture participants received branded souvenirs and books on engineering thinking.

In conclusion, several students signed target agreements. This summer they will undergo internships at the company's enterprises. Perhaps these are future project managers, chief engineers and authors of technological breakthroughs.
