Three lives saved with organs donated by a brain-dead patient. Where the transplants were done

The National Transplant Agency (ANT) announced, on Sunday evening, that a new intervention of organ and tissue sampling from a 54-year-old brain-dead donor offered a new chance to several patients who were waiting for a liver, kidney and cornea transplant, reports Agerpres.

The sampling took place on Friday, at the Bucharest Emergency Clinical Hospital (Floreasca), from a 54-year-old brain-dead donor, with the consent of the family, informed ANT, in a post on its Facebook page.

“Following this gesture of deep generosity and human solidarity, several transplants were carried out, namely a liver transplant, at the Fundeni Clinical Institute, which offered a new chance at life to a 50-year-old woman. She benefited from an emergency liver transplant for acute liver failure, due to an infection with the hepatitis B virus,” the post says.

Two other kidney transplants were performed on two male patients, aged 42 and 52, also at the Fundeni Clinical Institute.

Corneal transplants were carried out at the “Prof. Dr. Mircea Olteanu” Clinical Institute for Ophthalmological Emergencies, restoring the chance of sight to some patients.

“The ATI team from the Bucharest Clinical Emergency Hospital (Floreasca) was made up of assistant coordinator Anghel Florentina, KDP associate Dr. Liliana Mirea, regional KDP Prof. Dr. Ioana Grinţescu, Dr. Anca Rotaru, regional coordinator. Behind every transplant there are dedicated medical teams, coordination, professionalism and, above all, the power of a gesture that changes destiny. The thoughts of the transplant team go to the family of the donor who, in the hardest test, chose to offer hope and life further”, the post of the National Transplantation Agency also states.
