US President Donald Trump has sparked controversy after he published on his Truth Social network a map of the Middle East in which the territory of Iran appears colored in the style of the United States flag.

The image was accompanied by the message: “The United States of the Middle East?”without further explanation.
The gesture comes amid information published by Axios, according to which the leader of the White House would have convened an emergency meeting with his national security team to discuss the situation in Iran.
Sources cited by the publication claim that Trump is considering military options if negotiations with Tehran do not make rapid progress. The diplomatic process is described by people close to the talks as extremely tense.
In parallel, the American president would have held discussions with close advisers and officials involved in the negotiations, and a decision on the next steps could be taken in the coming days.
Trump told Axios that the situation is “Solid 50/50”suggesting that there is an even chance for either an agreement or a major escalation of the conflict.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said there was “progress” in negotiations with Iran and hinted that new official information could be released soon.
On the other hand, diplomatic sources indicate that a possible preliminary agreement framework is being discussed, which would include topics such as regional security, the easing of economic sanctions and the release of frozen Iranian funds.
