Was driving a car into a crowd in Italy a terrorist attack? Investigators came to the conclusion

Investigators in the Italian city of Modena have rejected the theory of terrorism after a car crashed into pedestrians, as a result of which eight people were injured. Euronews reported this on May 17.

We are talking about an incident that occurred on Saturday, when a 31-year-old Italian citizen of Moroccan origin drove at high speed into a group of pedestrians and then crashed into a store window. He then tried to attack people with a knife. He was detained by two Egyptian citizens.

According to police and local authorities, the person involved was not associated with terrorist organizations. Law enforcement officials are considering the possibility that the man may have mental disorders.

Four of the victims are in critical condition, some of whom have had their limbs amputated. Among the wounded are foreign citizens.

After the collision, the man tried to escape, but he was detained by passers-by and handed over to the police. He was charged with mayhem and assault with a weapon.
