Jurgen Klopp (58) has addressed the growing rumors surrounding his future, flatly denying any contact from Real Madrid and ruling out the possibility of taking over the Germany national team.
Since announcing his departure from Liverpool after almost a decade at the Cormorants, the German technician has been constantly linked with several of the biggest clubs in world football.
Jurgen Klopp: “I was never contacted by Real Madrid”
Real Madrid, who currently have Alvaro Arbeloa as interim coach, and Germany, whose future could depend on the results of the 2026 World Cup, were the most mentioned destinations.
Although earlier reports suggested that Klopp had already turned down an approach from the Spanish club, the manager has now clarified the situation. In a press conference organized by Magenta TV, alongside Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels, Klopp denied the rumors categorically.
“It's good we're talking about it,” he began. “When is a story a story? When someone takes a piece of paper and writes something on it? Or when there's actually something behind it?” If Real Madrid ever called me? Never, not once in my coaching career“, he explained.
With a hint of irony, the coach added: “I will also take over Atletico Madrid, preferably at the same time. Sorry Madrid, you'll have to call first!“
Klopp's statements make it clear that there has been no contact over the Real Madrid job to this point, contradicting speculation in recent weeks.
Regarding the possibility of becoming Germany coach, the former Liverpool manager was equally blunt, ruling out the possibility in the near future. “I'm not thinking about it at all right now“, he stated. “Who knows what the next few years will bring, but there is absolutely no plan for that.”
