“Bad city! If Charles Darwin had stopped there, he wouldn't have come up with the theory of evolution”

A few days after Corvinul – FC Voluntari 2-0a result that complicated the calculations of promotion for the guests, Robert Gherghe, executive president of the Ilfovean club, launched a tirade of insults and serious accusations against the Hunedorens.
Gherghe, known after what called Steaua Bucharest in the fall of 2024, the “abortion project”, a statement that earned him a fine of 5,000 lei, he relapsed.
Throughout the season, there have been skirmishes between two teams that sought to promote in the first league, Corvinul Hunedoara and FC Voluntari, but what happened 3 days after the direct match, after which the Hunedoara players mathematically ensured their promotion, exceeded the limits.
Present in the Metropola TV studio, the television station owned by the city of Voluntari and controlled by the mayor therethe FC Voluntari official addressed unprecedented insults to the Hungarians.
The executive president of FC Voluntari: “Hunedoara, miserable city! Old “peasantism””
“The world says about me that I am sour with the people from Hunedoara. From a sporting point of view, I have nothing to reproach them with! That I said that this team doesn't face League 1 and will have the fate of Metaloglobus if they don't change, that's itis my opinion and I can have an opinion too, that we are in a free country!
Instead, in Hunedoara, the problem is educationfirst of all. With all due respect I say, but I think if Charles Darwin would have stopped in Hunedoara, he was no longer making any theories about evolution. I think he was just talking about surviving in extreme conditions or something! I'm telling you honestly.
I was more than surprised by these old “peasantisms”, from the 90s, when you started with the “guests”, with the “team from Ilfov”. These are miserable things, which the representatives of a miserable city like Hunedoara do!
Believe me, I wanted to go, to see the stadium on the day of the match, and when I put Hunedoara on the GPS, on the day of the match, Do you know what the GPS told me? “Do you really want to go there?”. I'm telling you honestly”, stated Gherghe initially, as shown by Liga2.ro.
Gherghe also said that in his opinion, Sepsi OSK was the best team in the second echelon, accusing Corvinul of being pushed to the Superliga with favorable arbitrations:
“I say honestly, with all due respect, Sepsi, from all points of view, organizational, team, financial, stadium, supporters, hospitality, everything, from top to bottom, hats off, deserve to be in League 1. It was one of the biggest injustices to relegate the Sepsi team. It's our bad luck that we faced them.
It is a team that deserves, from all points, top to bottom, the presence in the first echelon. I have certain doubts about Corvinul. Believe me, there is also a lot of money at Corvinul, very, very much money, but, really, not at the level of those at Sepsi.
If during the regular season there hadn't been these “three” penalties, plus they also missed a lot, like at Metalul Buzău, with Steaua, that is, they were pushed, there were big mistakes in their favor. If the difference had been smaller, what did the Corvinus point to…
It was a major balance. I'm not saying Voluntari is better than Corvinul, I'm saying it was a balance. Sepsi is the best team, then Voluntari and Corvinul are about there. I recognize this matter, but they, getting the points they got, with the “Friendship Cup”… Let's see that goal with which they won in Bistrita.
I have the courage to admit these things. May they also have the courage to recognize them! Once again, the strategy of those from Corvinul, well done! Let's skip this moment. They went to League 1, may they be healthy, let's see if we meet again, we'll see what happens!”.
Robert Gherghe: “What tradition does Corvinul have? They have a Romanian Cup, we have a Cup and a Supercup!”
But his tirade did not stop there. A few minutes later, he returned with another attack on Corvinus:
“I was hearing these people from Corvinul about traditional teams! Well, brother, leave me with your tradition! I mean, FC Voluntari, will I be allowed to be in the first league when I'm 100 years old, to have tradition?
Well, look at you, with your tradition and everything, that you have a Cup of Romania! We have a Cup and a Supercup! And we still have finals, semi-finals, we have many more.
what a big deal That if there was no Mircea Lucescu, may God rest him, and that extraordinary generation, with Ioan Andone, Mateuț, all those who were there, Klein, Rednic, all of them, there would be no Hunedoara in Romanian football. It doesn't exist!
So I can't anymore leave me with your tradition there. That if you had tradition, you existed in 35 years and you had a football stadium“.
I also attack on Facebook: “The seeds vs. the guests. Compared to Hunedoara, Voluntariul seems like a little Las Vegas”
This televised tirade came after Gherghe had also attacked Corvinul via social media. The day after the match, he described them as “seeds” and attacked Florin Maxim, the Hunedoren coach.
“Seeds vs. Guests. 27 days ago, at Voluntari, the Corvin delegation was received in a civilized manner: official lodge, reserved sector, quiet, respect. The only real competition held by the distinguished guests was that of breaking seeds. And it must be said: they were impressed by the performance.
A true display of mandibular endurance. The shells effectively whitewashed the sector, and we, like hospitable hosts, sent the sanitation team after the match. No one was offended, spat on or assaulted. Because sometimes the difference between civilization and maidan really exists.
Instead, yesterday, in Hunedoara, FC Voluntari officials were cursed, spat at and assaulted by individuals who gave the impression that the evolutionary process was still seriously negotiating with them.
Moreover, on the stadium sign, our club's name had been elegantly replaced by “Guests”, probably because sticking to an official name was already too sophisticated for the organizers. And pre-match insults flowed from the amplifier station in a rare display of provincial professionalism.
Maybe I expect too much civilization from one obscure mining town, compared to which the Volunteer honestly begins to look like a small Las Vegas.
Florin Maxim's statement to me also surprised me. I didn't think he was an Oxford graduate, obviously, but I was at least giving him the benefit of a secondary education. Unfortunately, I was wrong. (…)
In short, these are my big “crimes” against Corvinus:
-
I filed an appeal regarding the right to promotion. Correct. And I would do the same against any club, whether it's called Corvinul or FCM Focșani. Regulations are not patriotic poetry.
-
The Gloria Bistrita – Corvinul match left me with the impression of a special edition of the “Friendship Cup”. I don't want to insist on connections and common impresarios, because we are becoming conspirators again.
-
I said that the stadium in Hunedoara looks pathetic. Something recognized even by their own supporters, who display banners on this theme almost match after match. So it wasn't really a state secret.
-
And yes, I allowed myself to say that Corvinu's team is not League 1. It has very good players from League 2, without question. But let's see how many of yesterday's starters will be regular starters in the first season of Ligue 1. Four-five maximum. I'll see your bet.
Instead, Florin Maxim conveniently forgets other things:
Cristiano Bergodi knows how stubborn he is. I personally insisted for four days that Florin Maxim be accepted into the Voluntari staff.
He was the only coach from Voluntariiu's juniors that I strongly recommended for the second team.
At the end of last year, he bombarded me on WhatsApp with some messages that, elegantly put, I attribute them to a euphoric state fueled by a high-powered liquor. I didn't make them public precisely because I still believe in a minimum of professional decency.
Out of the same respect, I didn't publish the images of the Hunedoara delegation turning the official tribune into a suburban seed-breaking festival,” reads the text published by Gherghe on social networks.
What Florin Maxim said right after Corvinul – Voluntari: “This character only cared about us”
In the interview given after the victory that ensured their promotion, Corvinu's coach, Florin Maxim, poked Gherghe:
“In the end, the irony of fate, God places them the way he has to place them. I worked at Voluntari, don't let it be understood that I wish them harm. Voluntari does not mean those people who submitted that request (no – the appeal to the cession attempted in 2024 by Corvinul).
I have friends there, I lived with them for more than six years of my life, that is, I spent almost 20% of my life at Voluntari. But even during this championship they denigrated us, because we live in the country, because we don't have a field and the stadium falls on us, because we don't have a League 1 team.
This character, I don't even want to say his name… I know him, I know who that character is, he only cared about us. But it only gave us that energy, made us envious, and the irony of fate made it so that here, in Hunedoara, in this old stadium, which is standing for a while and falling down, we got this promotion”.
With one stage left in the play-off of the second league, FC Voluntari occupies the 3rd place, having two points in the minus compared to Sepsi. The second direct pass will be decided, between the two, in the last round.
