The agony of a wonderful monument in the center of Bucharest, a masterpiece of the Socolescu architectural style. The house burned in front of the world

A short distance from two dilapidated buildings on Carol I Boulevard, two valuable buildings where the architect Ion N. Socolescu lived and worked, there is another open wound: Casa Ghermani on Slănic Street.

Casa Ghermani caught fire (as usual, “unknown author”) on the night of March 27 to 28, 2011. And now you can see the sky through the high windows, with braced arches reminiscent of oriental Bucharest, an unmistakable mark of the Socolescu style of architecture.

All the buildings designed by Socolescu in Bucharest are on the List of Historical Monuments and all of them are in an advanced state of decay or have been mutilated by aggressive interventions, such as the exceptional Ionnescu-Gion House

The Ghermani house survived earthquakes and wars, and even came out of communism unscathed, but the fire got in the way.

Read, on B365.ro, what are the main causes of this eternally open wound of Bucharest: the loss of heritage.
