Night anxiety in Latvia. NATO fighters flew over the Baltic Sea

“The National Armed Forces inform that the potential threat in Latvian airspace has ended,” the Latvian services announced shortly later in a message on the X website.

Latvia informed about a possible threat

Earlier, the National Armed Forces of Latvia informed about a potential threat in the country's airspace. The likelihood of danger concerned the eastern border of Latvia. The services warned the residents Rzeżyca, Lucynia, Balvi and Aluksne about the possible danger, advising them to stay at home and close their windows. Due to the suspected threat, NATO fighters were activated to patrol the airspace over the Baltic Sea.

Drone incident

On Thursday, the military reported the intrusion of two drones into Latvia from Russia into Latvian airspace. Four empty oil tanks in Rzeżyca were damaged, the police and fire brigade found probable remains of a crashed drone — reported the LETA news agency. No flames were found, but steps were taken to cool one of the tanks.

According to LETA, residents of the eastern part of the country have already received similar warnings in recent months about a possible threat in the airspace, probably related to drones participating in the Russian-Ukrainian war approaching Latvian airspace.
