The national center “Russia” hosted a screening of the film “Krasnoyarsk. Rear Workers” about the feat of home front workers.

This is not just an artistic and documentary film from several episodes, but a poignant story about the contribution of workers in various fields to the Great Victory – including river workers of the Yenisei Shipping Company. The audience included representatives of different generations: labor veterans, cadets, members of the Youth Army, employees of enterprises and industries shown in the film.

The film combines two formats: authentic archival footage and an artistic component. The main characters are a grandfather, who wrote a book about the labor valor of Krasnoyarsk residents, and his grandson, a schoolboy. They find a common language and record a podcast about the exploits of the rear. The role of the writer was played by the famous actor Vladimir Steklov, and the grandson and his girlfriend were played by Arseny Metzger and Daria Stepanova. After the show, Daria, together with director Vladimir Tarasov and local historian Konstantin Karpukhin, answered questions from the audience.

“We sought to tell the story of Krasnoyarsk, our grandparents, through family history in such an exciting form that would be understandable to a young viewer, and at the same time so that adults could also watch the film with their children,” shared director Vladimir Tarasov. — A separate incredible story is the feat of the rivermen. We wanted to pay tribute to the women who replaced the men who went to the front, and convey it not only in a poignant way, but also in an inspiring way – because they overcame great difficulties to bring peace. Our project – with a famous actor in the leading role, with a large team – could not take place without the support of companies such as Norilsk Nickel, Russian Railways, and the Siberian Institute for the Development of Creative Industries. A film like this requires investment, and thanks to their support, we were able to create a unique project.”

The film consists of six small episodes, each of which is dedicated to a separate feat of home front workers – railway workers, scientists, prospectors, factory workers, builders, pilots. One of the series was created with the support of Norilsk Nickel and tells about the rivermen of the Yenisei Shipping Company, transporting cargo along the Yenisei, ensuring the supply of defense facilities.

More than 2,000 river workers went to the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Replacing the men who left to defend the Motherland, teenage cadets went to work, and women mastered difficult river professions. Among them was the legendary Lyubov Stepankova, the only female mechanic in the history of the Yenisei Fleet and the first of her kind in the entire USSR. During the war years, a new towing method was developed to transport rafts from the forest – the idea belonged to the innovative captain Mikhail Likhansky.

At the same time, the Norilsk Combine was built and operated in the Arctic, whose products became a support for the country’s defense. Krasnoyarsk rivermen delivered everything they needed along the Yenisei to the Far North. During the war years, ships of the Yenisei Shipping Company transported over 3 million tons of cargo for the needs of the front and defense enterprises.

“During the war there was a shortage of everything – food, spare parts, equipment, fuel. At the same time, the rivermen had an important task due to the peculiarities of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, where only water communication is possible over a huge area. Even the mobilization of residents from the North to the front was carried out on the ships of the Yenisei Shipping Company. From the very beginning of the construction of the Norilsk plant, people and materials were delivered by ship. I began my work in the navy in 1959 on the ship “Spartak” – it was on it that in 1935 the first workers were delivered to the Arctic for the construction of the plant. They didn’t embellish anything in the film, it was even more complicated and difficult,” said veteran of the Yenisei River Shipping Company, former captain-mentor Vladimir Rukosuev.

As noted by Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the region Irina Subocheva, such a significant film must have a sequel.

“We still have a lot of people to talk about. Having plunged even for a few minutes into these difficult transportations of goods along a very difficult river, you understand how important it is to show our history. Because we have children growing up, there are families who work at these enterprises. We now live in completely different conditions, and when you think for even a second about the cost of this work, the thought “I’m tired” immediately disappears from your mind. This is a unique project that will look good on children and teenagers, it is very kind and warm, and each episode carries an important meaning,” emphasized Irina Subocheva.

It should be noted that the federal project “Tyloviki.RF” won the national award “Heroes of a Big Country” as the best short film. The paintings are included in the permanent exhibition of the Victory Museum on Poklonnaya Hill and are recommended for display in schools.
