Two drones crashed in Latvia. A new Ukrainian trace has appeared


One of the drones hit an oil storage facility in Rzeżyca (Rezekne) – a town located approximately 40 km from the border with Russia. According to the Latvian news agency LETA, four empty oil tanks were damaged. The police and fire brigade found probable remains of a crashed drone at the scene. There was no fire, but the services began to cool one of the tanks.

After the incident, the authorities canceled classes in all educational institutions in Rzeżyca and Lucyna (Ludzas) near the border with Russia. In Balvi, also located in the east of the country, lessons were moved to remote mode. Residents of all three cities received SMS alerts about a possible threat in the airspace.

Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds, who went to the site of the drone crash, stated that the drones were probably launched from Ukraine towards Russian targets. In an interview with the public broadcaster LSM, the minister emphasized: – Ukraine has the full right to defend itself and to carry out strikes against targets located on Russian territory. Spruds also reported that after the incident, fighters participating in the multinational NATO Baltic Air Policing mission were picked up.

Drones fell in Latvia. A crisis team was convened

Latvian Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis appealed to residents to stay at home until the situation is under control and to report to the services any potential place of a drone fall. Prime Minister of Latvia Evika Silina announced on the X platform that she is in contact with the ministers of defense and interior affairs as well as with the rescue services. Silina also called a crisis meeting.
