Students of the direction “Reconstruction and restoration of architectural heritage” of the Institute of Architecture and Design of the Siberian Federal University went to a practical lesson in the Historical Quarter on Gorky Street. 10 people took part in it along with the teacher.

The future architects were shown restored wooden houses, a courtyard and outbuildings, and were also told how historical elements are preserved and how buildings are adapted for modern use.

The historical quarter is one example of how the city works with architectural heritage. Here it was possible not only to restore individual buildings, but also to recreate the entire environment of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

“For students, this is an opportunity to see a living example of how historical heritage is not just preserved, but becomes part of the modern urban environment. Such projects help to better understand how to work with authentic historical architecture and at the same time take into account the requirements of today,” said Ekaterina Dashkevich, a teacher at the SFU Institute of Architecture and Design.

In 2017, on the initiative of the founder of RUSAL Oleg Deripaska, a project to restore the Historical Quarter on Gorky Street began in Krasnoyarsk. Over the course of four years, specialists restored six ancient wooden houses, each of which is an architectural monument. Today, such facilities are becoming not only part of the urban environment, but also a platform for training future specialists.
