Dan Boboutanu, the mayor of Hunedoara, reacted after Corvinul mathematically advanced to the Superliga, after a 2-0 victory over FC Voluntari, in a match in stage #8 of the Superliga play-off.
The mayor's office is directly involved in the team from Hunedoara, and the mayor, the main decision-maker, wanted to dedicate the promotion after 34 years to Mircea Lucescu, the late Romanian football man who wrote history at the Hunedoara club.
The mayor of Hunedoara reacted after the promotion of Corvinu to the Super League: “Nea' Mircea! You asked me, a year ago”
“Nea' Mircea! You asked me, a year ago, to take Corvinul to League 1. I promised to do my best. Today, I managed to keep my promise! I dedicate this promotion to you too”, wrote the mayor of Hunedoara on his personal Facebook page.
Mircea Lucescu started his coaching career on the technical bench at Hunedoara, in 1978, and at Corvinul, for a while, he was a player-coach. “Il Luce” created a strong team in the city and under his leadership Corvinul achieved the most important performances in history, including a 3rd place in the championship in the 1981-82 season and qualification for the UEFA Cup.

Mircea Lucescu died on April 7 this year, and Corvinul Hunedoara did not forget for even a second the man who transformed the team into an internal force. After the incident that shook the world of Romanian football, the Corvinul team wore special T-shirts with Mircea Lucescu's face on the chest.
At the match in stage #4 of the Superligi play-off, played on April 14, the Hunedoren players wore the limited edition shirts to honor Mircea Lucescu.

Corvinul has two more matches to play in this League 2 season, and the only goal left is to finish in first place. The team from Hunedoara still has to play on the field of Chindia Târgoviște and in the last stage at home against Bihor.
