The Krasnoyarsk Regional Court refused to allow animal rights activists to repeal the law on the euthanasia of stray dogs.

The Krasnoyarsk Regional Court rejected the claim of animal rights activists who demanded the repeal of the regional law allowing the euthanization of aggressive stray dogs. The plaintiffs insisted on returning to the previous order – lifelong keeping of animals in shelters.

The law allowing the euthanization of aggressive stray dogs has been in effect in the Krasnoyarsk Territory since March 1. The caught animal is taken to a temporary detention center for 10 days for inspection and testing for aggression. Calm individuals are released back after sterilization and marking. Aggressive ones are left in the shelter for 30 days, and if the owner is not present during this time, the dog is euthanized. At the same time, funds for the lifelong maintenance of animals are no longer allocated from the budget.

Animal rights activists filed a lawsuit against the region's Legislative Assembly, the governor, the government and the Ministry of Natural Resources. They proposed building shelters for thousands of dogs and keeping them there.

The court decided to dismiss the claim. The decision can be appealed within a month.
