The Secret Service conveyed, through a message published on the X platform, that its crews were immediately mobilized to the scene, and the area was quickly secured.
“One person has been shot by law enforcement. His condition is unknown at this time. Please avoid the area as emergency responders are on the scene,” the Secret Service said.
Emergency crews also intervened in support, and the perimeter was isolated for the investigation.
The White House was briefly placed under heightened security measures, including a precautionary lockdown, according to international media.
Journalists outside were moved by agents inside the press building as a protective measure.
President Donald Trump was at a small business event and continued the program without interruption.
For now, the authorities have not provided information on the identity of the person shot, nor on his condition. The reasons that led to the opening of fire were not made public either.
The investigation is ongoing and the area remains secure.
