Manchester City took just a point at Everton, 3-3, after leading until the last minute of extra time when Doku set up the final score.
The “Citizens” lost two important points in the fight with Arsenal for the title, due to a disastrous 13 minutes away from Liverpool, with Everton (3-3).
Between the 68th and 81st minutes, Pep Guardiola's side conceded three goals and from 0-1, the score became 3-1 for the hosts. As if awakened from lethargy, City managed to reduce the “damage” through Erling Haaland (min. 83) and Jeremy Doku (90+7), but this 3-3 remains a draw that tastes more like failure.
Pep Guardiola surprises: “A very good performance”
Nevertheless, at the meeting with the journalists, after the final whistle, Pep Guardiola appreciated that his team had a top evolution. “A very good performance. We played outstandingly in the first half. Very, very good. In the second half they stepped up and maybe we weren't as aggressive and then we conceded the goals.
They turned the game into a genuine English game, they were extremely aggressive in duels. But overall, we had a very good performance,” commented the Manchester City manager at the opening.
Pep Guardiola puts the cannons on the referees: “Keane should have been sent off, there was no corner for their second goal”
Then, however, Pep began to remember the things that displeased him: “Michael Keane should have been sent off before half-time, but the referees gave a yellow. What can I say? It's not my business. Their first goal was our mistake.
In the second, the corner awarded is no longer a corner. After that, the game opened up and they had chances, while we made rash decisions. It's normal because of emotions, but without emotions we wouldn't have returned in the end”.
Guardiola also spoke about the title fight: “It was in our hands. Now it's not. We have Brentford on Saturday and we'll see what happens. A point is better than nothing. Everton played incredibly, incredibly aggressively.”
Manchester City are 6 points clear of leaders Arsenal but have a game in hand with 3 legs remaining until the final whistle of the 2025 – 2026 Premier League season.
