Judicial control for the young people who danced and pretended to have sex on the graves in the Bellu Cemetery

The two young people from Bucharest who danced and simulated sexual acts on the graves in the Bellu Cemetery were placed under judicial control for 60 days. The decision was announced on Tuesday, May 5, by the Prosecutor's Office attached to the 4th District Court, after the images became viral on the Internet and sparked public outrage.
According to the prosecutors, the two defendants, aged 18 and 25, are being investigated for the crime of desecrating corpses or graves. The investigation established that the incident took place exactly one month ago.
“The defendants were charged with the fact that on April 5, 2026, between 4:40 p.m. and 1:47 a.m., together with another person, they desecrated a funeral monument located in the Bellu Cemetery, sector 4, simulating sexual relations with thisa”, stated the prosecutors.
The file is being handled by the police officers of the Capital District 4 Police, Section 14, under the coordination of a prosecutor from the District 4 Prosecutor's Office.
On Monday, the day before the order of judicial control, the Capital Police announced the arrest of a young woman and a young man involved in the incident, after the images were posted online.

“Behavior that affects fundamental social values”
In the footage, young men climb onto the graves and dance lasciviously to manele rhythms while being filmed. Their gesture was later posted on social networks such as TikTok and Instagram, where it quickly went viral.
The videos sparked a wave of negative reactions from netizens. Most of them harshly criticizing the young people's gesture, considered disrespectful to the deceased and to a sacred place.
“The Capital Police takes with the utmost seriousness such behaviors that affect fundamental social values, the respect due to all citizens and the norms of social coexistence, stressing the fact that such acts will not be tolerated”, it is also shown in the communiqué.
“We also appeal to citizens to behave responsibly and report to the competent authorities whenever they witness such situations”the police said.
The Bellu cemetery houses the graves of some prominent personalities of national culture and history, which amplified the public reactions to the young people's gesture.
