A big-name band cancels its US comeback concert amid poor ticket sales

After a recent spate of tour cancellations amid poor ticket sales, music industry watchers were anticipating the next blow to The Pussycat Dolls reunion tour, plagued by modest sales, and the official news came Monday, Variety magazine reports.
The band announced that the US leg of the tour is being canceled “after an honest assessment of the North American segment”, while concerts in other regions of the world will go ahead as planned.
While the band members did not explicitly point to ticket sales as the reason for pulling out of these dates, they offered no other explanation either – unlike other recent cancellations where alternative justifications for dropping arena or stadium tours have been cited, some more believable than others.
“Dolls: We want to share an important update with you,” begins the message posted on the group's social media. “When we announced the PCD Forever Tour, we hoped to bring the show to fans around the world. After an honest evaluation of the North American segment, we have made the difficult and painful decision to cancel all but one North American date.”
The only US gig left on the schedule is an appearance at WeHo Pride in the Los Angeles area on June 6.
“Our UK and European dates will still go ahead as planned and the response has been incredible, with several shows already sold out,” the band said in a statement.
The Pussycat Dolls will arrive in Europe in Warsaw and Prague
Closest to Romania, The Pussycat Dolls will hold concerts in Warsaw on September 16, at the COS Torwar arena, and in Prague on September 23, at the O2 Arena.
The band will also perform concerts in Paris, London, Oslo, Antwerp, Munich, Düsseldorf and other European cities.
Nicole Scherzinger, who is returning to the pop scene after a Tony Award-winning Broadway performance, joins Kimberly Wyatt and Ashley Roberts on tour. Some fans criticized the absence of three other former members from the reunion.
In March, former member Jessica Sutta claimed her MAGA political affiliations were one of the reasons she was not invited back to the tour.
The cancellation of The Pussycat Dolls' North American tour comes as Meghan Trainor and Zayn canceled their entire US arena tours, and Post Malone and Jelly Roll canceled the first third of their stadium tour.
Variety notes that sales for all of the artists in question were noticeably poor, judging by the seating configurations available for these tours up until the time of the cancellation, although Malone's situation did not appear to be as dire as other canceled tours.
