Nicușor Dan's decision before the 40th anniversary of winning the European Champions Cup: “Decree of decoration”

Nicușor Dan, the president of Romania, signed today, May 4, a decoration decree for the Steaua 86' generation on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of winning the European Champions Cup.

On May 7, 2026, it will be 40 years since the huge performance achieved by the band from Romania. Anghel Iordănescu received the National Order “For Merit” in the rank of Commander, while the players from that team received the National Order “For Merit” in the rank of Knight, a lower rank than the one received by Iordănescu.

The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, signed a decoration decree on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of winning the European Champions Cup in Seville, on May 7, 1986.

“Thus, wishing to pay tribute to the members of the football team of the “Steaua” Army Sports Club, who, by achieving one of the greatest performances in the history of national sports, as well as through their entire activity in the field, have brought special services to Romania, President Nicușor Dan conferred:

  • National Order “For Merit” in the rank of Knight to Mr. Balint Gavril Pele-Gavril, Mr. Belodedici Petru Miodrag, Mr. Bölöni Ştefan Ladislau, Mr. Bumbescu Mihai Adrian-Doru, Mr. Iordache Constantin Vasile, Mr. Iovan Pavel Ștefan, Mr. Lăcătuș Mihai Marius, Mr. Majearu Mihai Mihail, Mr. Marinescu Mircea Ștefan-Florentin, Mr. Petcu Chirea Ștefan, Mr. Pistol Constantin Constantin, Mr. Pițurcă Petre Victor, Mr. Radu Dumitru Marin, Mr. Stîngaciu Costică Dumitru, Mr. Stoica Gheorghe Tudorel and Mr. Weiszenbacher Ernestin Anton”, was the announcement on the official website of the Presidential Administration.

How will the Romanian Parliament celebrate the 40th anniversary of winning the European Champions Cup

Also today, the Romanian Parliament accepted a request from the commander of the military club, Colonel Eduard Danilof. He requested that the Parliament Palace be illuminated in red and blue colors on May 7. This request has been approved and the building will be illuminated on May 7th between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM.
