MLS Champion, Inter Miami; lost to Orlando City 4-3 despite having 3-0 on the scoreboard at one point.
Inter was 3-0 in the 33rd minute, thanks to goals scored by Ian Fray (min. 4), Telasco Segovia (min. 25), from Lionel Messi's pass, and by Messi himself. A splendid goal, which crowned a total spectacle. But instead of continuing on the same note, the Miami team inexplicably fell.
A certain relaxation made its way into the players' minds and then into their feet, which the MLS champion paid for with all 3 points. Final score, 3-4! The unexpected failure infuriated Messi, who after the final whistle, in the locker room, actually attacked his teammates.
Ian Fray: “Lionel Messi had enough to say”
The revelation of what happened in the cabins did not come “from the sources”, but from the mouth of one of Inter's players, in front of the cameras! Defender Ian Fray, who opened the scoring, said: “Our captain spoke and I can say he had a lot to say.
He warned us that what happened in the Orlando game was unacceptable. We all agreed with him, this is unacceptable and will definitely not happen again“.
Another player of the Miami team, Noah Allen, admitted in his turn that the team went too early in the match from concentration to relaxation: “The way the whole team showed itself after the third goal was devastating, it's something that has to change… It was a very poor performance from everyone and an unpleasant experience, we have to get over it as quickly as possible.”
Fourth game without a win for Inter Miami at their new stadium
Following this result, Inter Miami remained without a win in their new arena. 2-2 with Austin FC, 1-1 with New York Red Bulls, 1-1 with New England Revolution and 3-4 with Orlando City are the results recorded at “Nu Stadium”.
It was just the third time in MLS history that a team came back from 0-3 down to win. The Seattle Sounders pulled off the feat against DC United in 2017, and the LA Galaxy did the same against LAFC the following year.
