Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski ruled out the participation of the Left in the future Council for the new Constitution, which is to be established by the president. – Working with PiS, Konfederacja or Karol Nawrocki to change the constitution is not in line with left-wing and democratic values - he said.

According to Friday's announcement by the president's spokesman, Rafał Leśkiewicz, the first members of the President's Council for the New Constitution will be appointed on May 3. The body is to include representatives of parliamentary clubs and groups (two people from each club and one from each group), experts and people who “have different sensitivities, different views, different perceptions of issues related to the law, the functioning of the law, and the functioning of the current constitution.” The body will have time to prepare the draft of the new constitution until the end of Karol Nawrocki's presidency, Leśkiewicz said.
The Prime Minister on the president's initiative regarding the new constitution: I propose to start by observing the current constitution
Prime Minister Donald Tusk commented on the announcement of the establishment of the New Constitution Council by President Karol Nawrocki. – I propose to start by observing the current constitution – said the head of government.
Boycott the presidential council. The constitution is a bone of contention
Gawkowski was asked about whether the Left was ready to join the announced Council during a Friday briefing in Warsaw.
Changing and seeking any cooperation with PiS, Confederation or the president on changing the constitution is not in line with leftist, but also democratic values - replied the deputy prime minister.
As he added, Law and Justice broke and destroyed the constitution and politicized the Constitutional Tribunal. – Mr. President and I will not do any work on changing the constitution. First, let the president start respecting the constitution, let him fulfill his duties, and not abdicate them, Gawkowski said.
In his opinion, the president abdicated some of his dutiesamong others not accepting last year officer nominations for service employees and not taking the oath from judges of the Constitutional Tribunal. According to Gawkowski, this shows that the president has no respect for the constitution and only thinks about the political game.
Deputy Prime Minister attacks advisers: Poland should be ashamed of them
The deputy prime minister also said that the president “tends to appoint councils.” – There are hundreds of such employees, associates and advisors around him. People appear that Poland should be ashamed of, like the previous council that was full of Russian trolls – he said. He expressed concern that the new council may include people who have violated the constitution in the past. – I'm misjudging this. The Left will certainly not get involved in such processes, he commented on the possible participation of party politicians in the Council for the new Constitution.
In April, the president established the New Media Council. The 27-person Council included Paweł Swinarski, a YouTuber using the pseudonym Paweł Svinarski. His appointment to the Council sparked controversy due to accusations of repeating Russian disinformation. In a video on YouTube from September 11, 2025, the author suggested that the Russian drones that entered Polish territory were a Ukrainian provocation. (PAP)
