Promulgated law: Unlawful exercise of clerical or monastic duties – criminally punishable

The unauthorized exercise of the duties of priest, rabbi, imam or other functions – clerical or monastic – assimilated to them at the request of the cults by the State Secretariat for Cults, constitutes a crime and is punished according to Law no. 286/2009 regarding the Criminal Code, according to the normative act promulgated on Thursday by President Nicusor Dan.

It is about the Law for the amendment and completion of Law no. 489/2006 on religious freedom and the general regime of cults, informs Agerpres.

According to the recently promulgated law, cults have the exclusive right over the religious ways of honoring persons canonized, beatified, sanctified, passed among the righteous or recognized as their own identity symbols.

President Nicusor Dan notified the Constitutional Court last July regarding the Law for the amendment and completion of Law no. 489/2006 on religious freedom and the general regime of cults, but this notification was rejected.
