Peter Magyar issued a statement. His brother-in-law will be the Minister of Justice

Magyar wrote on Thursday that the priority of the new head of the Ministry of Justice will be to restore the rule of law and create regulations that will unblock EU funds owed to Hungary. Tisza's leader also expects Mellethea-Barna to restore equality before the law for all Hungarians, eliminate corruption and rebuild the professionalism of independent institutions.
Who is Marton Mellethei-Barna
Mellethei-Barna and Magyar studied law in the same year. In 2024, the lawyer married the sister of the leader Tisha, becoming his brother-in-law. He is the father of five children.
The future minister worked, among others, at the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) in Washington, D.C., where he represented victims of human rights violations in the Americas. Then he joined the Budapest office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer as a consultant in the competition and antitrust group. In November 2007, he specialized in global market regulation, competition law and commercial law at the Oppenheim law firm, Hungarian media reported.
In 2021, he founded his own law firm. The lawyer was one of the first 10 members of the Tisza party and in the first year of its activity he supported the group with 2 million forints (approximately PLN 23,000). He also represented Magyar in several lawsuits. Like Tisza's leader, the outgoing authorities accused him of having connections with philanthropist George Soros.
Tisza's party won 140 seats in the 199-seat National Assembly, giving it a constitutional majority.
