Former great athlete Doina Melinte (69 years old), who held the position of state secretary within the National Anti-Doping Agency (ANAD), claims that gymnast Ana-Maria Bărbosu compromised her career, after she was not found at home by anti-doping agents.
Ana Maria Bărbosu missed the meeting with the anti-doping officers three times in a 12-month period and became liable to a suspension for two years, because he violated the procedures related to localization.
The athlete is to be suspended. ANAD wanted to specify that the sanction has not been applied yet. However, it is only a formality until the suspension is ratified.
Former great athlete Doina Melinte believes that for Ana Bărbosu it is the end of her career
Doina Melinteformer official within the National Anti-Doping Agency, harshly explained the mechanism by which athletes end up being removed from the circuit.
In her view, Ana's mother is to blame for the situation in which the gymnast ended up.
“I would say that the mother is to blame. She left Romania for America, but I think she probably won't be able to do sports anymore. She did not comply with an anti-doping procedure. I was undersecretary of state at the National Anti-Doping Agency for ten years.
If the doping control officers are looking for you and they don't find you three times at home where you announced in the system, then of course a warning is given. These are the rules and must be followed.
If you have three violations and you are not found at home, so you have not had three doping controls, then you are automatically suspended”, said Doina Melinte, for AGERPRES.
