In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a court found a 41-year-old resident of Kansk guilty in the illegal acquisition, maintenance and attempt to sell a particularly valuable Red Book animal with public display on the Internet.

It was established that in September 2025, the woman sheltered a peregrine falcon in her home, which was brought to her by a friend. The rare bird of prey was injured – it received a severe head injury and a cut beak, could not fly and did not orient itself in space. The figure, who has long been interested in ornithology and has a diploma of retraining in this specialty, took up treatment.

“For two months she nursed the falcon in a cage: she fed it, treated it, watched as it gradually came to life, began to eat and try to take off. However, instead of handing over the bird to specialists, she decided to find “good hands” on the advertising site. The woman posted a photo of the damaged falcon and organized an auction with an initial price of 10 thousand rubles. The bird was booked for 60 thousand rubles, but the money was not transferred. The woman continued to look for a buyer, without having permission to trade Red Book animals,” the prosecutor’s office said.

Soon law enforcement officers found out about this and seized the peregrine falcon. In court, the defendant fully admitted her guilt:

“For ten years I treated birds for free: parrots, wild birds. I wanted to place the falcon with caring people, not for money, but in good hands. I didn’t know all the intricacies of the law.”

According to Part 2 of Art. 258.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the accused was sentenced to 1 year of suspended imprisonment.
