This man worked with US President Richard Nixon, was friends with Henry Kissinger and made Zbigniew Brzezinski nervous. He also traveled with Biden on trains, wrote a foreign policy speech to Donald Trump, and led a plenary session with Vladimir Putin at SPIEF in 2023.
Now he is a guest on a new episode of the podcast “Without Leaving the Room” about American politics.
He is Dmitry Simes, a Soviet emigrant, American and Russian political analyst, former head of the Center for National Interests in Washington.
We met with Dmitry without ties and talked about what national interests are, how to measure them, and whether it is true that the interests of Russia and the United States will always diverge.
We discussed, of course, the elections, heard personal stories about young Biden on trains, bored Trump and dinners with geopolitical strategists.
Bonus: political emigration from modern Russia, experience of serving in “Matrosskaya Tishina”, the Republican peace plan and the new architecture of world security.

IMPORTANT: This episode was recorded before the assassination attempt on Trump and the withdrawal of Biden's candidacy. But the meanings within it are still relevant. We are already preparing a podcast analysis of the situation in America and will publish it in the near future.
