Netflix is reviving a thriller in a series based on the bestseller that established Denzel Washington

The streaming platform Netflix is about to release the series that will replace the production of “Jack Ryan” in the top of the favorites of fans of suspenseful action thrillers with chases and chases. “Man on Fire,” a seven-episode television series, will be released on April 30, CBR writes.

Based on AJ Quinnell's bestselling 1980 novel of the same name, Man on Fire follows Special Forces veteran John Creasy, haunted by his past and hunted by enemies as he tries to keep a teenage girl alive on the deadly streets of Rio de Janeiro.

Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was cast in the lead role. The role was previously played by Denzel Washington in the 2004 film adaptation of the novel, which established the actor.

Kyle Killen is the executive producer of the series.

The 'Man on Fire' star opens up about the character's trauma in the new Netflix series

Earlier this month, Netflix released a new trailer for “Man on Fire,” showcasing the high-stakes action Abdul-Mateen's character will face when the series premieres later this month. The star has previously spoken about his role and why the character he plays is so affected.

“His trauma is so deep that he's afraid to make friends. He's afraid to open up. He's afraid to be vulnerable, and that held him back for a very long time,” Abdul-Mateen testified. Fortunately, an important relationship on the show helps John Creasy keep his focus on the goal.

The young woman he is tasked with protecting, Poe (played by actress Billie Boullet), ends up forming an unexpected alliance with Creasy, and the two quickly become inseparable in this revenge thriller. “They find each other,” Abdul-Mateen said. “Their relationship is based on trust. I think it's a beautiful relationship. Ultimately, they both needed something from each other: Creasy really needed a friend, and Poe needed someone who was like family to him.”

Whether or not John Creasy can develop a close relationship with someone despite his haunting past – that's one of the driving forces behind the show's narrative. “That's actually the story of the season,” Killen revealed. “Creasy lets his guard down, lets other people get close to him, and then discovers that he can accomplish more as a team than he can alone.”

“Man on Fire” promises breathtaking action scenes

Although the emotional stakes in “Man on Fire” will be very high, the series promises plenty of action to keep moviegoers interested. In a scene featured in the Netflix trailer, Creasy jumps from a car into a plane, and the actor talked about the complex logistics that made these jaw-dropping moments possible.

“I'm sure it took even longer for the crew to go into the field and get everything ready and make sure we were safe and stuff like that,” Abdul-Mateen said of the show's flawless stunts. “Every episode was like a little movie, and when you have something like that in it, and when everything plays out in a realistic way, I think everyone involved deserves a lot of credit.”

With cinematic action guaranteed, the only question that remains is whether Creasy will succeed in his mission. “He has no problem helping someone else, but when it comes to saying yes, allowing himself to be helped — that's when we really see him struggle,” Abdul-Mateen revealed.
