The average price of gasoline in the U.S. rose to its highest level in four years on Tuesday, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA). Prices are rising against the backdrop of an impasse in US-Iranian talks on ending the war.
On average, Americans have to pay $4.18 on Tuesday. per gallon (less than 3.8 liters) of gasoline. The last time prices at gas stations were this high was in April 2022, after the Russian attack on Ukraine.
Fuel prices increased by 1.6% on Tuesday; this is the highest percentage jump in over a month. Before the U.S. and Israel started the war with Iran in late February, the average price for gasoline in the United States was less than $3.

Price increases are a political issue for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party as the November congressional midterm elections approach.
Gallup's survey shows that the percentage of Americans who believe their financial situation is getting worse is the highest in 25 years and stands at 55%. In 2025 and 2024 it was 53 and 47 percent, respectively.
