A Russian chef was detained in Paris on suspicion of espionage and, we quote, “organizing acts of destabilization before the Olympics.” During searches in the apartment of a 40-year-old man, documents were found that allegedly indicate his connection with the FSB. He is in pre-trial detention and faces up to 30 years in prison.
The Russian has been living in France for 14 years. He worked in Michelin-starred restaurants, ran a food blog and appeared on reality TV. Local authorities said that in a letter to the owner of his home, the cook shared his plans: in the near future he plans to return to Moscow to become an official.
The intelligence services detained the man after he allegedly had a telephone conversation with a high-ranking Russian intelligence officer, in which he had previously boasted about how he could disrupt the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
