The ex-wife accused Peter Magyar. Investigators close the case

The decision to discontinue the investigation cited the lack of evidence. The case was initiated following a complaint filed by a private individual, Istvan Tenyi, in March 2024, based on Judit Varga's statements during a television interview.

Varga then spoke about her marriage to Peter Magyar, describing it as deeply tumultuous. The woman described the moment when Magyar allegedly locked her in a room, from which she only escaped with the help of their child.

In the notification of a possible crime, Magyar was accused of unlawful deprivation of liberty and endangering a minor. Investigators rejected complaints in both cases, saying there was insufficient evidence to substantiate the suspicions – Hungarian media reported.

The case comes to an end

The case was then transferred to the Budapest General Prosecutor's Office for further consideration. According to the final decision, no evidence was found to support the allegations. Authorities also emphasized that Varga did not testify during the investigation, Index noted.

Due to the lack of further procedural steps that could clarify the case and the lack of evidence of a crime based on the available information, the investigation was formally closed.

Magyar led the TISHA party to victory in the April 12 elections and ousting Viktor Orban's rule after 16 years. Magyar's party won 141 seats in the 199-seat National Assembly, giving the party a constitutional majority. The new government will be sworn in on May 9.
