Norilsk Nickel confirmed its metal production forecast for 2026

April 28 20:00
Norilsk Nickel, whose main assets are located in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, announced preliminary production results for the first quarter of 2026.
Compared to the same period last year, nickel output increased, while the output of other metals decreased “due to the effect of the high base of the first quarter of last year and the redistribution of commercial output volumes between quarters.”
At the same time, the company confirmed its metal production forecast for 2026. Its implementation is guaranteed by ongoing measures to improve operational efficiency. As Evgeniy Fedorov, First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Norilsk Nickel, said, the Polar Division has completed one of the important stages in the development of the Glubokaya mine of the Skalisty mine.
A new exploration pit at a depth of 1.5 km will make it more convenient to transport mined ore to the surface. Bringing the Skalisty mine to full capacity is one of the company’s key mining projects aimed at increasing production volumes in the medium term.
Also in the refining shop of the Kola site, commissioning work began on a project to improve the processing of high-grade matte. This will allow us to change the production pattern and reduce losses of precious metals.
Evgeniy Fedorov called the most important achievement of the first quarter the bringing of the environmental Sulfur program to full capacity:
“At the Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant (NMZ), a third line for the production of sulfuric acid and a fourth line for its neutralization were introduced. As a result, sulfur dioxide emissions at NMP are expected to be reduced by 90% from the 2020 base year. The implementation of an environmental program is also ongoing at the Kola site, which will allow reducing sulfur dioxide emissions by an additional 10% in the future.”
