A former PSD minister justifies the collaboration with AUR for the censure motion. “We are not talking about any alliance”

“There is no question of forming a PSD-AUR Government”, is the firm message from the top of the social-democratic formation, after Monday's announcement regarding the submission of a joint motion of censure against the Ilie Bolojan government. According to former minister Ciprian Şerban, the decision to submit the motion is a “pragmatic” one and “has only one goal: removing the prime minister from the Victoria Palace”.

The PSD-AUR move to support a censure motion together is a pragmatic decision and we are not talking about any alliance, we have no future plans with the AUR, the former Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Ciprian Şerban said at the conference where he presented his balance sheet.

When asked if a PSD-AUR government would be formed and he would agree to return to the position of Minister of Transport, Şerban answered: “There is no question of forming a PSD-AUR Government. As my colleagues also said and I also saw the statements of those from Kiseleff, it is a pragmatic decision, it has only one goal: removing the prime minister from the Victoria Palace”

“We are not talking about any alliance, we have no future plan with the AUR Party,” added the former Minister of Transport, according to Agerpres.

PSD-AUR joint motion

Former Deputy Prime Minister Marian Neacșu announced on Monday that PSD will initiate, together with AUR, a censure motion against the Government led by Ilie Bolojan.

“Following several rounds of discussions with the party leaders, it was decided that Mr. Petrișor Peiu and I would deal with the technical side of a joint censure motion. That is why we are here today. The thing we will deal with is exclusively technical. The political approach will probably be explained during this day by the party presidents. As you know, we have convened a National Political Bureau at 2:00 p.m. where the decision will be made final. (…) Both parties will be initiators. Moreover, I spoke with Mr. Peiu, I am convinced that the leaders of our parties will agree, to make an appeal to all parliamentarians who want to contribute to the motion by signing and voting”, said Neacșu, at the Parliament Palace, in a joint conference with the leader of the AUR senators.

For his part, Petrișor Peiu specified that it is a joint effort, with the intention that the censure motion will be submitted and debated at the beginning of May.

“The two parties will have meetings in the leadership forums and you will also have reactions and approaches and political explanations somewhere this afternoon. We are informing you that we have started the technical process of writing that motion,” said Senator AUR.

The two politicians were asked if this can be considered a first step for a collaboration in government as well.

“Any road starts with the first step. For now, we are facing this step,” said Neacșu.

“The only thing that has been discussed so far is the drafting and initiation and voting of a joint censure motion. (…) There is no pact with the PSD. There is a joint solution for the time being and it was agreed to make a joint text on the motion so as not to risk having two motions and both fail. Any parliamentary collaboration is welcome and for now we had this discussion, let's see what happens after we finalize it,” he said. Fur.

Later, the PSD president, Sorin Grindeanu, insisted that there is no post-motion political agreement with the AUR, and the support of the censure motion by the two parties is a parliamentary move.

“I want to be very clear: it is a parliamentary approach, it is an approach that at the moment has support beyond political color – PSD, AUR, PACE, SOS and so on – and this is how I would like it to be interpreted. There are many things that separate us, (…) but there is a common goal, that of voting for this motion and bringing down the Bolojan Government. This is a common goal. There is, to be as clear as possible, no political agreement post-motion. These things were not part of any kind of discussion and I want to be very clear. This text of the motion, which will be submitted to the attention and vote of the plenary, should be finalized soon, Grindeanu said in front of the press.
