Rostelecom employees spoke about the operation of digital devices to pensioners in the village of Shushenskoye, Krasnoyarsk Territory. The lesson was held on the initiative of the Integrated Center for Social Services for the Population “Shushensky” as part of the “ABC of the Internet” project.
The company's specialists demonstrated to participants how modern technologies can make everyday life easier and increase safety. Several kilometers of optical cable, a router – and smart speakers, sensors, Wink digital TV and cloud video surveillance are available in every home.
Natalya Kolesnikova, Deputy Director of the Regional State Budgetary Institution of Social Services “Comprehensive Center for Social Services for the Population “Shushensky””:
“We interact with different categories of the population, including older people who are left alone – they have no loved ones or live far away. Without the constant support of social workers, they find it difficult to cope with everyday activities. Therefore, we invited Rostelecom specialists to show our students and our team how to equip their home with modern devices. It turned out, for example, that with the help of a voice speaker an elderly person can control light, TV and other equipment – without physical effort. It gives him more independence.”
Rostelecom volunteers gave practical recommendations on the use of digital devices. They explained how cloud video surveillance works: instant notifications about movement, sound or crossing a line in the frame can be sent to the mobile application not only of the owner, but also of invited users – relatives and social workers. This allows you to quickly respond and provide assistance if necessary.
Particular attention was paid to smoke and water leakage sensors, which also automatically send alerts in emergency situations.
The participants showed the greatest interest in digital television: they actively asked questions about its advantages over traditional cable TV, about image quality and signal reliability. Especially older people were attracted by the pause and rewind functions, which allow them to review programs at a convenient time.
“New technologies are not a privilege. Digitalization should be accessible to everyone, especially those who need additional security and comfort. A smart home can be a good help for a retiree. The operation of the system can be configured individually depending on the user’s needs,” said Denis Zinoviev, Deputy Director of the Krasnoyarsk branch of Rostelecom.
