The meeting aims to transform the “diplomatic consensus” obtained last week in Paris into a joint operational plan, which would allow the reopening of the strait as soon as the security situation allows it, the same agency says, cited by Agerpres.
Premises for “concrete progress”.
John Healey, the British defense minister, said there were premises for “concrete progress”.
The talks in London come shortly after the meeting in Paris, where more than 40 countries discussed ways to ensure freedom of navigation in this strategic area.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron then announced their intention to coordinate a multinational mission with an exclusively defensive role, which would be deployed only after the establishment of a lasting ceasefire in the region.
The US and Iran, parties directly involved in the tensions in the area, do not participate in these discussions. Downing Street had previously announced a military planning summit this week, without giving further details.
