A section has appeared on the Avito platform where you can purchase a SIM card. The sellers are official stores of large Russian telecom operators.
The user can choose the number and region of connection, and then pick up the SIM card from the nearest pickup point. After this, you need to register it with State Services – it is not necessary to visit a communication salon.
The Big Four operators began remotely selling SIM cards on marketplaces back in 2020. MTS was the first to test this format on resale platforms in 2025.
“About 35% of SIM card purchases, whether in person or online, are due to smartphone upgrades. Russians often go to resale platforms for this, so integrating the sale of SIM cards into them is a logical step. Thus, the user’s path from purchasing a smartphone to connecting it is significantly shortened,” MTS commented.
Let us add that smartphones on the secondary market, according to Avito data, are consistently popular. If in the fourth quarter of 2025 the resale segment accounted for 69% of sales, then in the first quarter of 2026 – already 71%.
