Fritz, statement with interpretation about a collaboration with the AUR parliamentarians. “We are always open”

The USR leader, Dominic Fritz, announced that he conveyed to the president Nicușor Dan, during the consultations at the Cotroceni Palace, that his formation continues to support Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. Asked about a collaboration with AUR MPs, Fritz replied that USR is open to discussions with elected officials from George Simion's party, but ruled out “a formal negotiation” with the formation.
The discussion with Nicușor Dan was “long and extremely honest, open”, said the USR leader, Dominic Fritz, in his first statements after the meeting with the head of state.
“I assured (the president) that we support Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and I said that we will continue our presence in this government, precisely because we are worried about the loss of 10 billion euros from the PNRR, the loss of 16 billion euros from the SAFE Program. And we are worried that the reforms that this government started – the cleanliness, the justice that this government started to do, the correction of the deficient policies, which cost Romanians a lot – that these reforms are now wiped out with a sponge”, said the USR leader, in the press statement held at the Cotroceni Palace.
He noted that there is “no easy way” out of the crisis “in which the PSD has thrown us”.
“We expressed to the president our expectation that the PSD, even in this crisis, would show a minimum of responsibility towards this country, not to block the SAFE programs, not to block the PNRR and make it possible to draw a clear line between the time when PSD was part of this government and when it will no longer be part of this government. And we understood that this moment will be tomorrow and we expect PSD to quickly withdraw the people who were put into office politically”, he stated Dominic Fritz.
According to him, the USR is willing to be part of a minority government, but in this situation the PSD will continue to be responsible for what will happen to the government of the country, after a possible fall of the Executive.
“I reiterated to the president that a PSD that is constantly blackmailing with a parallel majority, with the extremist party AUR – if it goes so far as to vote a motion of censure against the Government – will no longer be able to be a partner for us,” said Fritz.
“We are always open for a discussion”
The USR leader added that, following PSD's departure from the government, discussions will follow with unaffiliated parliamentarians or those from “smaller parties that want to show responsibility” towards the country.
“USR sees the political reality these days. The most important thing is not to lose the money, to be able to continue the reforms and to protect the prosperity of the Romanians. And of course, for that we have to see the realities in the eyes and we cannot live in a parallel reality. And that is precisely why, of course, we are also now forced to hold discussions with all those who were elected, also by the Romanians”, he added.
Asked by reporters about a collaboration with the AUR parliamentarians, Fritz stated that the USR is open to discussions, but excludes “a formal negotiation” with the formation led by George Simion.
“I do not rule out that there are MPs who are currently in the AUR, who are also concerned about the current situation, and of course we are always open to a discussion. What we exclude is a formal negotiation with the AUR party,” said Dominic Fritz.
Regarding the possibility of a technocrat prime minister, the USR leader said: “We have not discussed this option at all.”
Fritz added that, if the PSD will participate in the overthrow of the Government through a motion of no confidence, then the social democrats will have to say “who they think should ensure the governance of Romania” after the motion is voted on.
“We remain firmly with all the Romanians who are following this crisis these days and we are encouraged by the fact that there are many Romanians who tell us through all possible channels to continue our fight for a more modern, more prosperous, cleaner Romania and to continue the path of reforms”, concluded Dominic Fritz.
The USR delegation to the consultations with President Nicușor Dan was formed by President Dominic Fritz, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, the Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, the Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, the leader of USR deputies, Diana Stoica, and the head of USR Cluj, Oana Murariu, secretary of the Chamber of Deputies.
