The District Court of Columbia ruled that the company paid billions of dollars to Apple and Samsung to make its search engine the default option on their smartphones and browsers, thereby limiting the capabilities of competitors.
Google representatives said they do not agree with the decision and plan to appeal.
The company says it provides the “best search engine” and that users prefer Google because they “find it the most useful.”
