In an interview with Europa FM, the head of state said he chose not to participate in order not to politicize the moment.

“Including in this show we discussed contres, tensions, differences of opinion, moral reactions. I was impressed by the harmony that this unfortunate event caused in the world of football”, the president stated.

Nicușor Dan emphasized that the event was deeply emotional and that he preferred not to appear in this context.

“I don't have a TV at home because of the children, they shouldn't watch. I think it was an emotional event in all those days when the casket was at the National Arena. I didn't want to take it to a political area with a possible presence of mine. People were extraordinarily decent – that's a good thing for Romania and when good things happen, we have to salute them.” he explained.

Many personalities were present at Mircea Lucescu's catafalque, including former president Traian Băsescu, who paid their last respects to the coach.
