Well-known analyst John Bolton, a former adviser to President Trump, criticizes the policy of the Washington administration towards Iran and claims that the US will not be able to solve this problem until it achieves a regime change in Tehran.
Known as the architect of the incisive “hawk” American foreign policy, John Bolton comes to the fore with a series of harsh statements, in which he vehemently criticizes Donald Trump's strategy towards Iran. Although Bolton was an adviser to Trump in the past, he is now not managing him at all.
Without a strong America, the world will be engulfed in chaos that will ultimately be fatal to Americans, he believes. This means that enemies, be they Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, or other countries hostile to the United States, will sooner or later attack because they will be invited to do so precisely by the weaknesses emanating from the United States. This is the belief that underlies John Bolton's analysis.
In an explosive podcast for the UnHerd platform, John Bolton, known across the Atlantic as the architect of hawkish politics, makes a plea for hardline American interventionism. On Freddie Sayers' show, the former National Security Adviser didn't kid anyone, neither the regime in Tehran nor his former boss, Donald Trump.
Above is the UnHeard podcast and the most important claims Bolton made.
He talks about America's weakness and appeals to a famous statement by former NATO No. 1 Donald Rumsfeld.
It is not American strength that is challenging, but its weakness
“As Donald Rumsfeld used to say: It's not American strength that's provocative, it's American weakness that's provocative.” claims John Bolton.
He blasts the leader of the White House and accuses him of getting the situation completely out of control. As if that were not enough, he claims that, in reality, the administration in Washington is not capable of making a coherent security plan, and all orders given to the military are nothing more than spur-of-the-moment reactions.
What Coposu was saying four decades ago about the Russian danger and how it evolved. History: “The moment can no longer be put off”
“Trump doesn't have a philosophy. He doesn't have a grand national security strategy. He doesn't do politics in the way that most people understand that term. His decisions are based on neural flashes. They aren't based on a grand strategy. So, I don't know, maybe one of those neurons went off and they unexpectedly went off the rails.”is the harsh statement about Trump.
The prospect of a nuclear disaster in the US
Further, he uses a famous intelligence metaphor to describe limited airstrikes: mowing the lawn. On the principle “the grass grows back if you don't remove the root”, John Bolton claims that as long as Trump flirts with the idea of maintaining the current power in Tehran it will solve absolutely nothing.
The bad news would be, according to John Bolton, that Americans may suffer in the future because of Trump's indecision. The prospect of a nuclear disaster on American soil would no longer be just a scare for the well-known analyst.
“How would you like to see an American city under a mushroom cloud [nucleară]? Especially when you're dealing with a regime of religious fanatics looking to get nuclear weapons“, is the devastating question he poses, to which he comes up with his own solution. The United States should impose a total blockade on the regime in Tehran and provide full support for the insurgents
Further, he comes up with the solution to a suffocating economic blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and turning Iranian oil into a pressure tool.
“We should seize the ships coming out of the Strait of Hormuz and store the oil somewhere, or sell it and put the money into a fund we would control to rebuild Iran once a new regime is in place.” considers the well-known analyst.
John Bolton's solutions
Conversely, regarding Iran's political future, Bolton rejects the idea that the US must have a “successor” ready. Here he invoked the historical patterns of post-World War II:
“I would support almost anyone inside Iran who opposes the regime. The idea that we need an alternative before we topple the current regime is simply wrong. We have not had an alternative government to Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan,” it's his opinion.
John Bolton may be right, from one perspective at least. The United States' negotiations with Iran did not yield results, and despite threats and even American attacks, the response of the Iranian army was devastating, including for its neighbors. It remains to be seen how the conflict in the Middle East will evolve and whether the fears of some analysts who see the risk of escalation into a world conflict are real or whether pacifists are right when they criticize Washington's policy and claim that it will not bring any good to an already inflamed area.
