SURVEY: The Bolojan coalition, on the verge of collapse. One in five Romanians only give it a few months, the rest already consider it history

Romanians feel high social and political stress, according to a survey conducted by the Political Rating Agency (ARP), founded by political analyst Cristian Andrei. The data shows that 39.2% of citizens believe that the political system needs to be completely replaced, and 70.5% see the wrong direction of the country.
- The ARP study is part of the opinion barometer dedicated to the crises in the coalition and the context of the war in Iran. It was carried out between April 1-10, 2026, on a representative sample of 1,187 people, with a statistical error of 2.8%.
The conclusions of the report indicate that Romania is in a point of social and political stress similar to the moment 2024-2025. The barometer shows major concern over prices and dissatisfaction with the overall direction of the country. Also, the survey indicates that most Romanians fear the impact of the war in Iran on prices and a fuel crisis, more than the expansion of the conflict.
What Romanians think about the future Bolojan Government
The future of the governing coalition PSD-PNL-USR-UDMR, led by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, divides opinions equally: 21.2% of Romanians believe that it will last until April 2027, while 21% predict its breakup in a few months. Another 10.5% of responses indicate a breakup within weeks, and 16% see the government as already dissolved.
Expectations vary according to political options: PNL, USR and UDMR voters are more optimistic about the future of the coalition, while AUR and SOS supporters anticipate a quick breakup. PSD voters are more undecided on this subject.
Regarding coalition scandals, 26.9% of respondents believe that all partners are equally responsible. The top then points to PSD (20.1%) and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan (18%) as the main culprits, followed by President Nicușor Dan (5%), USR (4.1%), PNL (1.8%) and UDMR (0.6%).
Also, the data show that AUR, SOS and PSD voters, along with people from rural areas and those with medium education, believe to a greater extent that Romania is going in the wrong direction.
Impact of the Iran War
Regarding the decision to host US equipment and soldiers in the context of the war in Iran, 18.7% of Romanians support the measure, while 32.2% are against it. A segment of 35.7% declares that they do not have a formed opinion on this subject.
The biggest support for this decision comes from PNL and USR voters. At the opposite pole, AUR, SOS and UDMR voters are most against, while the PSD electorate is mostly undecided on this subject.
Although the main fear is related to prices, 18.3% of citizens fear that Romania will be drawn into the conflict. Other reasons for concern include the possibility of war reaching Europe (7.6%), the collapse of global order (6.1%) and the rise of terrorism (4.8%).
Economically, 52% of respondents say they were “very much” affected by the increase in fuel prices. In this context, 68.1% of Romanians declared that they will buy fewer products for the Easter table following the price increases.
