Russian forces attacked unarmed soldiers with FPV (operator-controlled) drones while they were withdrawn from the front line near Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region, the 24th Brigade, named after King Danylo, reported, Kyiv Independent writes.
“They were moving from the contact line to the rear, unarmed, showing signs of receiving medical attention and using crutches — in accordance with the conventions and terms of the armistice,” said the brigade.
Little did the attackers know that the wounded soldiers were actually Russian soldiers captured the day before. They had been evacuated first to test Russia's compliance with the truce.
“To ensure the safe medical evacuation of its own personnel, the brigade command decided to dress the captured personnel in neutral uniforms and conduct a test evacuation to see if the enemy kept his own promises,” transmitted the unit.
The brigade published video images of the incident. The Kyiv Independent was unable to verify these claims at the time of publication.
Russia has violated the Easter truce announced by the Kremlin, launching new waves of drone attacks on Ukrainian positions, despite signals from both camps that the end of the war may be near.
In a 15-hour period from 16:00 on April 11 to 07:00 on April 12, Russia allegedly committed 2,299 ceasefire violations, according to the General Staff.
These include 28 assault operations, 479 bombing raids, 747 kamikaze drone strikes and 1,045 FPV drone strikes.
Although the truce was presented as a possible humanitarian gesture, both sides continue to accuse each other of violations, and the prospects for a lasting agreement remain uncertain.
