We are talking about a four-meter mesh structure along the technical road, which will be reinforced with barbed wire on top.
Additionally, spirals of barbed wire and a two-meter fence on the forest side are also installed, which should reduce the risk of injury to wild animals.
Construction started simultaneously in five locations. The materials were provided by the Polish border service, and installation was carried out by units of the military engineering troops.
The Polish Border Service noted that the new fence is a strengthening of the existing barrier infrastructure and is primarily installed in the most vulnerable areas where attempts to illegally cross the border are recorded.
The design should slow such attempts and give border agencies more time to respond, service officials said.
Construction is planned to be completed along the entire 186 km section in Podlasie Voivodeship by the end of spring.
Context
In 2021, in the EU countries bordering Belarus, the problem of illegal migration from the countries of the Middle East has worsened.
The EU accused Alexander Lukashenko, who calls himself the president of Belarus, of organizing illegal migration flows. The European Union reported that migrants were attracted to Belarus through Belarusian diplomatic missions. According to Ukrainian intelligence information, “recruitment centers” were created on the territory of third countries, where people were offered to be transported to the European Union for a fee and, under the guise of tourists, were taken to Minsk.
In Lithuania, Latvia and Poland declared an emergency on the border with Belarus due to the influx of migrants.
