About half of Haiti's 12 million people are experiencing hunger and need urgent humanitarian aid, according to the latest United Nations report.

According to the authors of the document, prepared by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the study of the phenomenon of famine that is spreading in this Caribbean country is based on the observations of UN employees during their stay in Haiti in March this year.
As Edem Wosornu from OCHA's management said, Haiti is currently experiencing one of its greatest humanitarian crises in the country's history.
She specified that among the 6.4 million people in need of urgent humanitarian aid in Haiti, there are 5.7 million citizens who experience serious food shortages on a daily basis.
– Families are skipping meals, children are leaving school to help at home, and educational institutions are occupied by numerous displaced people in this country – added Wosornu.
One of Haiti's main problems is mass crime, in particular the activities of strong gangs destabilizing the political and social situation of the country. To counteract them, at the beginning of April this year. The UN sent the first unit of international forces there to fight organized crime. (PAP)
