1 gum per bush – and we collect 5 kg of strawberries from the “bouquet”: the berries are clean, large and sweet

Strawberries are the most popular berry that grows in almost every garden. But quite often the fruits are affected by pests and rot, as a result of which nothing remains of the crop.

The fact is that the strawberry bushes “fall apart”, and the flower stalks with berries fall to the ground. This leads to a number of problems:

  • after rain, the soil remains wet, which is why gray rot develops on the berries;
  • slugs and ants easily get to the berries;
  • there is no ventilation inside the fallen bush;
  • Harvesting becomes inconvenient because the berries are hidden under the leaves.

Even if you add straw or spunbond, the bush still loses its shape. However, you can solve this problem with the help of ordinary stationery erasers, reports Green Stories (18+).

How to Use Rubber Bands on Strawberries

As soon as the strawberries have bloomed and the ovaries have appeared, you can begin to fix the bushes. Grasp the leaves and flower stalks with your hand, gently pull them up and secure the position with a rubber band to create a “bouquet”.

As a result, the berries do not touch the ground or come into contact with dirt, the ventilation of the bush improves, and it is more difficult for pests to reach the fruits. The plant spends its energy not on fighting diseases, but on forming large and sweet berries. That is why, with such simple care, you can safely harvest up to 5 kg of strawberries from one bush.
The main rule to remember: not a single berry in the garden should lie on the ground. The less dampness and contact with the soil, the higher and better the harvest will be. It’s worth trying this method on at least a few bushes to see the difference with your own eyes.
