“President. After honoring the memory of Mircea Lucescu in Bucharest, Rinat Ahmetov attended a match of the Shakhtar team for the first time in almost 12 years“, the club from Ukraine transmitted through social networks.
Ahmetov was in Bucharest on Thursday, together with Darijo Srna, the captain of the team coached by Mircea Lucescu. The billionaire made several new statements in Bucharest, explaining that Lucescu taught him to drink wine, and he convinced him to sing karaoke.
Before the match between Shakhtar and Alkmaar, a moment of silence was held in memory of Mircea Lucescu, as happened at all matches in European cups these days. The players of both teams entered the field with black armbands.
In 2014, at Ahmetov's last appearance at the stadium, Mircea Lucescu was the team's coach. Ukrainian fans displayed a banner reading “Rest in Peace, Mircea”.
I am here today to say goodbye to my friend. It happened unexpectedly, it is a great tragedy for Shakhtior supporters, but also for football fans from Romania, Ukraine and all over the world. Mircea Lucescu was my friend.
We collaborated for 12 years, worked together and won 22 trophies: 8 titles, 6 cups, 7 super cups and finally the UEFA Cup (no – current Europa League). I remember that after we won the UEFA Cup, Mircea was very happy.
You remember that he posed and waved the Romanian flag. That's why I think you should be proud that he is Romanian and that he has represented his country's football abroad, in other championships. We worked together and shared both joy and pain, and that made us friends.I consider him a very important man in my life. I think Mircea had a happy life, he couldn't live without work and, in principle, he left us, unfortunately, also from the football field.
