Sorana Cîrstea missed the chance to face Gabriela Ruse in the semifinals in Linz

Sorana Cîrstea (36 years old, #29 WTA) missed the chance to face Gabriela Ruse (28 years old, #87 WTA) in the semifinals of the WTA tournament in Linz, after being defeated by Mirra Andreeva (18 years old, #10 WTA), score 6-7(4), 6-4, 2-6.

Before Sorana's match, Gabriela Ruse had advanced to the “quarters” of Jelena Ostapenko (28 years old, #23 WTA) with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Mirra Andreeva started the match better and managed a break at 1-1, but Sorana managed to come back and level at 4, after she saved her fourth break point in the eighth game.

Sorana later saved a break point at 5-5, and the set then went to a tie-break, where Andreeva managed a single minibreak and won 7-4.

The second set started with a break by Sorana, who made use of the third chance to impose herself on the opponent's service, and later the Romanian managed the double-break, with a “white” game, bringing the score to 4-1. Andreeva immediately recovered a break, but Sorana managed to prevail with the score 6-4, with a “white” game on her own serve.

The last set started with Andreeva on serve, and after winning the first game, the Russian managed a “white” break.

After the score went to 3-0, Sorana Cîrstea managed two consecutive “white” games, but also with a “white” break, Andreeva distanced herself to 4-2, after which she did not lose any more games and prevailed with the score of 6-2 in the decisive act.

On the other side of the table, Donna Vekic (29 years old, #104 WTA) will face Karolina Pliskova (34 years old, #258 WTA) for a place in the second semifinal, where the winner of Anastasia Potapova (25 years old, #97 WTA) and Lilli Tagger (18 years old, #18 WTA) will also reach.
