Inside the Saint Eleftheria Church, where it was officiated the funeral service of Mircea Lucescuhis son, Răzvan, gave an emotional speech. George Copos, former owner of Rapid, a club that Mircea made champion, and Răzvan Burleanu, president of the Romanian Football Federation, the last employer in the career – and life – of the legendary football man, also took the floor.

This morning, starting at 10:00 a.m., the funeral service of Mircea Lucescu, who died on April 7, took place at the Church of Sfântul Elefterie in the Cotroceni neighborhood.

Inside the church, where only family members and those who were close to Mircea Lucescu, including many football players, had access, his son, Răzvan, took the floor and conveyed some thoughts after these difficult days, in which he was like a pillar for his family.

Răzvan Lucescu's speech at his father's funeral service: “He could not control his emotions”

One of those who attended the church, former footballer Marius Niculae, now an employee of the Romanian Football Federation, revealed to DigiSport what Răzvan conveyed:

“It was impressive, Răzvan could not control his emotions, but in the end he said that he hoped that his father, from up there, would be satisfied with what he had achieved“.

According to Marius Niculae, George Copos, former patron of Rapid, from which he won the title of national champion alongside Mircea Lucescu in 1999, and Răzvan Burleanu, the president of the last employer in the senior Lucescu's life, the Romanian Football Federation, also spoke at the church.

Marius Niculae tells that a message was also sent by Patriarch Daniel, the leader of the Romanian Orthodox Church:

“A message came and a message from Blessed Daniel. Really mentioned that [Mircea Lucescu] he was close to the church and helped rebuild a church in Istanbul“.
