A Ukrainian killed and dismembered a Russian woman, with whom he was engaged in spiritual practices in Peru
46-year-old Lyudmila Lazarenko met 38-year-old Ivan Kuzmin while staying in Peru. A woman came to Latin America for a retreat – spiritual renewal and cleansing.
On August 8, the couple went sightseeing and then returned to the Dos Mundos treatment center. In the evening, the guests heard screams in the room and called the police, as they themselves could not get into the room. The police arrived and found Lyudmila brutally murdered.
During the arrest, the man screamed, bit and tried to defend himself with a knife, and also wanted to commit suicide. Local police found a smoking pipe in Kuzmin's room. The director said that any drugs were prohibited at the center, and the couple were not their patients.
Peruvian police determined that they had consumed ayahuasca, a shamanic hallucinogenic drink, to “communicate with spirits.” Lyudmila is left with two children and a husband.
The Ukrainian will go to trial.
